Gina Monroe will be coordinating the FoodWIse program for Ashland, Bayfield, and Iron Counties as a new UW-Extension Hire working out of the Ashland County UW-Extension office. She replaces Kathy Beeksma, who recently started as the City of Ashland Housing Authority Executive Director.
Gina graduated from Ashland High School, received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Minnesota in Duluth, and did graduate school in education at Sonoma State University in California. She comes to FoodWIse with 15 years of experience in education as an elementary, middle and high school teacher, most recently in Doha, Qatar and Shanghai, China. She formerly directed a community action partnership after school program in Sonoma county, California that focused on activity, nutrition and cooking with
at-risk youth. Further, she worked as a coordinator for a corporate employee assistance program, working with health and mental health providers.
After being away from the area for 25 years, Gina decided to come back to the beautiful Chequamegon Bay on Lake Superior. “This is an amazing community throughout Ashland, Bayfield, and Iron counties and along with my husband and two sons, we are excited to be back near the fresh air, clean water, and woods. We love it here and are excited to be close to extended family again”.
“I’m excited to work with the FoodWIse program because of the information and education it provides our local area and the impact that it has had on health in the area. It provides everyone with the resources to live the healthier lives that they deserve through informed choices in their daily lives”.
Iron County UW-Extension welcomes you!
